
Five Panthers Named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

PITTSBURGH – Five members of the Pitt wrestling team were named to the 2024-25 NWCA Scholar All-American Team, as announced by the association Wednesday.
The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) honored junior Luca Augustine, graduate student Nick Babin, freshman Dylan Evans, graduate student Reece Heller and sophomore Mac Stout. Augustine received the honor for the third-straight season while Babin was honored for the second time. Evans, Heller and Stout were honored for the first time in their careers.
All nominees are determined by the academic records returned and the results in TrackWrestling. These exceptional student-athletes have excelled both on the mat and in the classroom, meeting one of the following criteria:
- Top 8 and a 3.00 GPA
- National Qualifier and a 3.2 GPA
- Conference qualifier and a 3.5 GPA
- 15 matches with a 60 percent win record and a 3.5 GPA
Augustine, a biology major with a 3.94 cumulative GPA, went 20-9 in his third season as the 174-pound starter and finished in second place at the ACC Championships in March. Augustine advanced to the Round of 12 at the NCAA Championships and was named the NCAA ELITE 90 Award Winner – the award presented to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the championship site.
Babin transferred to Pitt from Columbia for his final year of eligibility. The Emerson, N.J. native became the 125-pound starter, posting a 13-11 record and finishing fourth at the ACC Championships to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. Babin will receive his master's in finance from Pittsburgh and earned a degree in economics and finance from Columbia.
Evans, a freshman business major, posted a 22-9 record in his first year as a starter at 157-pounds. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native advanced to the third-place match at the ACC Championships and was selected to compete at the NCAA Championships.
Heller, a three-year starter at 184-pounds for the Panthers, won the ACC title in his weight class and was awarded the No. 9 overall seed at the NCAA Championships. Heller posted a 21-5 record on the season and finished his career with 94 wins. Heller received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh in information systems and will get his master's in supply chain management.
Stout, a sophomore communications major, finished in seventh place at the NCAA Championships to earn All-American honors and won the ACC title at 197-pounds. Stout earned the No. 6 overall seed at the NCAA Championships and finished the season with a 27-4 overall record with a 14-1 mark in dual meets.
Under head coach Keith Gavin, Pitt has now produced 18 NWCA Scholar All-Americans, all since 2020, with six straight seasons of multiple Panthers earning the prestigious recognition.
