
Pitt Falls in Midweek Contest to Ohio

Junior Alexis Solak Homers in Loss
ATHENS, Ohio – The University of Pittsburgh softball team fell to Ohio University, 6-1, in a midweek contest Tuesday afternoon in Athens, Ohio at Ohio Softball Field.
With the loss, the Panthers move to 17-12-1 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 15-12.
Pitt was held to just one run and a hit in the contest, courtesy of junior Alexis Solak, who hit a solo shot in the fourth.
In the circle, Taylor Rahach earned the loss, moving to 1-3 on the season. In 1.2 innings pitched, the junior gave up four runs, three unearned, on four hits and an error. Senior Kayla Harris replaced Rahach in the second inning and tossed the remainder of the game. Harris gave up the final two runs on six hits. Harris struck out four and walked two in 4.1 innings.
SCORING SUMMARY
Ohio got on the board first in the opening inning of play, scoring two runs on three hits and a Pitt error. The Bobcats led off with back-to-back singles to start the frame. Following a fielder's choice that saw the Panthers pick up their first out, getting the lead runner at third, Rahach gave up her third single of the inning through the left side. On the play, junior Taylor Myers came up throwing in short left as Ohio sent home the runner from second. The throw from Myers beat the runner home but junior catcher Gabrielle Fredericks dropped the ball on the tag, giving Ohio its first run of the frame. The second run crossed the plate on the next play, a ball back to Rahach in the circle, giving Ohio a 2-0 lead.
The Bobcats extended their lead to 4-0 in the second inning, after Rahach gave up a two-out homer, with a runner on second. The Panthers replaced Rahach on the mound with Harris, who picked up the final out of the frame.
Ohio added its fifth run of the game in the third after a leadoff single and walk, set up an RBI-single to right center.
Pitt found its first run of the game in the top of the fourth, thanks to a solo shot by Solak. The Panthers remained behind, 5-1.
The Bobcats answered with their second home run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, as a solo shot put Ohio ahead 6-1.

Pitt will welcome Duke to Pittsburgh for its first home series of the season, beginning Friday, March 30. The Panthers will play a three-game series with the Blue Devils, the first in program history.
