Pitt Resumes Action Sunday, Feb. 11 at Duke

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team fell to No. 12 South Dakota State, 25-13, Friday night at the Fitzgerald Field House.

With the loss, the Panthers drop to 2-10 on the year while the Jackrabbits improve to 12-2.

Pitt won four bouts in the dual with wins coming from junior Robert Lee at 149 pounds, redshirt freshman Jake Wentzel at 165 pounds, redshirt senior Ryan Solomon at heavyweight and junior LJ Bentley at 125 pounds.

The dual started at 149 and with a win from Lee in a 10-3 decision over Colten Carlson, giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead in the dual.

South Dakota State took the lead in the team race, 4-3, after redshirt sophomore Taleb Rahmani dropped a 10-2 major decision to No. 12 Luke Zilverberg at 157 pounds.

Pitt regained the lead, 7-3, after Wentzel picked up a 12-2 major decision over Logan Peterson for his 11^th win of the year.

The Jackrabbits then claimed the following three bouts at 174, 184 and 197 to take a 14-7 lead.

Pitt took the following three bouts at 285 and 125 as Solomon won in a 7-0 decision over Alex Macki and Bentley took down Connor Brown, 5-2, putting Pitt within one, 14-13.

South Dakota State won the remaining two bouts by technical fall and fall, respectively, en route to the 25-13 team win.
