Brechwald Earns Three Titles in Home Quad Meet

PITTSBURGH – Freshman Haley Brechwald earned three individual titles as the University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team finished with a 193.125 to place third in Saturday afternoon's quad meet against NC State, Temple and Towson at the Fitzgerald Field House.
NC State won the meet with a 194.600, followed by Temple at 193.875. Pitt's 193.125 was good for third place, putting them ahead of Towson, who finished with a 192.050.
The Panthers' best event of the day was floor, where they posted a 48.825. They scored a 48.425 on bars, followed by 48.100 on vault. Pitt also posted a 47.775 on beam.
Brechwald earned her titles via a 9.825 on bars, a 9.875 on floor and a 39.075 in the all-around. Sophomore Megan Tripp also scored a 9.825 on bars to earn an individual event title.
VAULT
The Panthers started the afternoon on vault, where Brechwald led the team with 9.700. Sophomore Alecia Petrikis posted Pitt's second best score in the event with a 9.675.
Temple took the lead after the first rotation, scoring a 48.875. NC State trailed closely behind at 48.550, followed by Pitt at 48.100 and Towson at 47.650.
BARS
The home team moved to bars for the second rotation, where two Panther gymnasts collected individual titles. Tripp and Brechwald both posted a 9.825 in the event, with the mark being a career high for Tripp. Junior Lucy Brett followed Brechwald and Tripp with a 9.800, followed by sophomore Lucy Jones at 9.750.
NC State gained control after the second rotation with a score of 97.000. Temple trailed behind at 96.800, followed by Pitt with a 96.525 and Towson at 95.775.
BEAM
The Panthers moved to beam for the third rotation. Senior Catie Conrad led the team with a 9.750, followed by Tripp with a 9.725. Brechwald recorded a 9.675 in the event.
The standings remained the same following the third rotation. The Wolfpack went into the final rotation with a score of 146.150, followed by the Owls at 145.300, the Panthers with a 144.300 and the Tigers at 143.200.
FLOOR
Pitt ended the day on floor, where it posted its best event score of the meet. Brechwald led the Panthers with a 9.875, which tied her highest mark of the season. Junior Charli Spivey followed Brechwald with a 9.825, setting her career-high on floor. Conrad also tied a season high with a 9.750 on the event, followed by senior Dani Hall at 9.700.
NC State finished the meet in first place with a 194.600, followed by Temple at 193.875. Pitt placed third with a 193.125, followed by Towson at 192.050.
