Panthers Take 2-0 Lead in Ninth but Game Reverts Back to Eighth Due to Time Limit
FULLERTON, Calif. – Due to a drop dead time limit, the University of Pittsburgh softball team tied with Loyola Marymount in its final game of the Titan Classic Sunday, Feb. 11 at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif.
With the score tied 0-0 at the end of the seventh, the Panthers [3-1-1] and Lions [1-2-1] entered extra innings. The two teams made it through the eighth scoreless despite the international tiebreaking going into play.
With time left on the clock, the two teams began the ninth, which saw the Panthers score two runs on a sac fly by senior Erin Hershman and a single by junior Gabrielle Fredericks. However, time expired, leaving a leading Pitt squad from winning as the game reverted back to the conclusion of the eighth.
The last time a game ended in a tie for the Panthers was March 25, 1999 against Robert Morris. The two teams tied 7-7 in a complete game.
In what was a defensive minded game, Pitt recorded just two hits on the day. Junior Alexis Solak and Senior McKayla Taylor picked up the lone base hits of the day, with Taylor's being a double.
In the circle, senior Kayla Harris pitched a complete game, recording five strikeouts and no walks.

Pitt will participate in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge, Feb. 16-18 at North Carolina's Anderson Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C., which will serve as the host site.
