The Opening Tip
- Pitt (8-13, 0-8) hosts Syracuse (14-6, 3-4) Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Petersen Events Center. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network (WTAE-D2 This TV in Pittsburgh) and is scheduled to tipoff at 4 p.m.
- The Panthers have used 15 different starting lineups this season, the most in the NCAA. Freshmen have combined to make 64 starts on the year.
- Pitt will wear retro jerseys for the game and pay homage to former Panther standouts with special throwback shooting shirts featuring the names and numbers of some of the top players in program history.
- Pitt has dropped eight consecutive games, tied for the fourth longest streak in program history.
- Pitt overcame an early 11-point deficit and led by as much as 15 points before cold shooting from the perimeter plagued the Panthers in the second half of a 72-68 loss to NC State.
- Pitt was 8-of-15 (.533) from three-point range to jump out to a 43-33 halftime lead. The Panthers went 0-of-14 from beyond the arc in the second half of play.
- Jared Wilson-Frame scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field to go along with four rebounds and four assists.
- Shamiel Stevenson went 4-of-5 from the field and finished with 11 points and six rebounds, while Marcus Carr and Khameron Davis each had nine points.
- Pitt led 66-57 before NC State closed the final 5:37 of play on a 15-2 run.
- Pitt has started three or more freshmen in a game 13 times, including 10 times in the past 11 contests. Freshmen have combined to make 64 starts as Marcus Carr (18), Khameron Davis (13), Shamiel Stevenson (11), Terrell Brown (10), Parker Stewart (10) and Peace Ilegomah (2) have each made starts this season.

- Parker Stewart has scored in double figures in six of eight ACC contests and is averaging a team-high 11.4 points per game. He ranks sixth in the ACC in three-point percentage (.447) and tied for eighth in three-point field goals (2.63 3pg.) in conference play.

- Kene Chukwuka is averaging 5.6 points per game over the past five games. He is 10-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point range, in that span.
- Marcus Carr leads Pitt in minutes played (603), starts (18) and assists (79). He has scored in double figures 10 times and ranks eighth among ACC freshmen in scoring at 10.1 points per game.
- Jared Wilson-Frame has made 22 consecutive free throws and leads the conference in free throw percentage (1.000) in league play. He is shooting 82.8 percent (48-of-58) from the line for the year.
- Parker Stewart is 37-of-90 (.411) from beyond the three-point arc and is averaging 9.6 points per game over the past 16 contests. Stewart has made two or more threes in 10 of the past 15 contests and leads the team with 40 three-point field goals.
- The Panthers' Canadian tandem of Marcus Carr and Shamiel Stevenson combines to average 19.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. The pair has combined for 19 double-figure scoring games.
- Parker Stewart scored a season-high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field in the first meeting against Syracuse. He set a Pitt freshman record with seven three-point field goals in the contest.
- Pitt's freshman class has accounted for 66.7 percent (338-of-507) of the team's scoring over the past nine games. The group has 14 of Pitt's 19 double-figure scoring games in that span.
- The Panthers are shooting 47.5 percent (197-of-415) from the field, 37.1 percent (75-of-202) from three-point range and 72.1 percent (119-of-165) from the foul line in their eight wins. In contrast, Pitt has shot just 39.7 percent (260-of-655) from the field, 29.9 percent (86-of-288) from three-point range and 69.4 percent (159-of-229) from the foul line in its losses.
- The Panthers current eight-game losing streak is tied for the longest in conference play since joining the ACC. Pitt also dropped eight consecutive league games from Jan. 7, 2017-Feb. 4, 2017.
- Pitt has dropped four consecutive games at the Petersen Events Center, matching the longest home losing streak at the venue. The Panthers also dropped four consecutive home games from Dec. 23, 2011-Jan. 25, 2012.
- Pitt ranks fourth in the NCAA in home wins (240) since the start of the 2002-03 season. The Panthers are 240-47 at the Petersen Events Center in that span.
- Pitt will host an alumni reunion prior to the game with legends Sam Clancy, Jerome Lane, Calvin Sheffield and Charles Smith highlighting a distinguished group of returnees. Returning letterwinners are invited back for a pregame luncheon and will be recognized on the court at halftime.
- The Panthers will also pay homage to several former Pitt standouts with retro shooting shirts featuring names and numbers of past greats as well as late 90's Panther claw marks on the side of the shirts.
- Pitt will offer two giveaways to allow fans the opportunity to join in on the retro theme Saturday. The first 5,000 fans will receive a replica Charles Smith jersey rally towel, while members of the Oakland Zoo will receive a retro themed white t-shirt.
