The Opening Tip
- Pitt (8-10, 0-5) faces Syracuse (12-6, 1-4) Tuesday, Jan. 16 at the Carrier Dome. The game will be broadcast on the Regional Sports Network (AT&T SportsNet in Pittsburgh) and is scheduled to tipoff at 9 p.m.
- The Panthers have used 13 different starting lineups this season, tied for the most in the NCAA. Freshmen have combined to make 53 starts on the year.
- Pitt has dropped its first five games in ACC play averaging 55.4 points per game, while shooting 38.8 percent (92-of-237) from the field, including 31.1 percent (32-of-103) from three-point range.
- Jared Wilson-Frame is averaging a team-high 13.0 points per game and is 14-of-14 from the free throw line in conference play.
- Pitt dropped a 69-54 decision to Georgia Tech Saturday at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers trailed 21-1 in the opening seven minutes of play.
- Jared Wilson-Frame, Shamiel Stevenson and Monty Boykins shared the team lead with nine points, apiece. Stevenson added five rebounds and two assists in the loss.
- Pitt was outscored 40-16 in points in the paint, while also lossing the rebounding battle, 39-20.
- The Panthers went 6-of-14 (.429) from three-point range as Wilson-Frame and Boykins both made a pair of threes.

- Jared Wilson-Frame leads the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game and three-point field goals with 36. He has scored in double figures 13 times and made three or more three-point field goals in a game five times. Wilson-Frame is averaging 15.3 points per game over the past three contests.
- Marcus Carr is averaging 12.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game in Pitt's eight wins. He is 34-of-57 (.596) from the field, including 13-of-24 (.542) from three-point range, in those contests. Carr is off to a slow start in league play averaging 7.2 points per game, while shooting 30.2 percent (13-of-43) from the field.
- Shamiel Stevenson has scored in double figures eight times and is 10th among ACC freshmen in scoring at 9.8 points per game. He is second on the team in rebounding (5.4 rpg.), while shooting a team-high 50.8 percent (61-of-120) from the field.
- Pitt's freshman class has accounted for 66.8 percent (227-of-340) of the team's scoring over the past six games. The group has 10 of Pitt's 14 double-figure scoring games in that span.
- Parker Stewart is 27-of-67 (.403) from beyond the three-point arc and is averaging 8.8 points per game over the past 13 contests. Stewart has made two or more threes in eight of the past 13 contests and is second on the team with 30 three-point field goals.
- Jared Wilson-Frame has made 14 consecutive free throws and shares the conference lead in free throw percentage (1.000) in league play.
- The Panthers' Canadian tandem of Marcus Carr and Shamiel Stevenson combines to average 20.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, while shooting 47.3 percent (122-of-258) from the field. The pair has combined for 17 double-figure scoring games.
- The Panthers are shooting 47.5 percent (197-of-415) from the field, 37.1 percent (75-of-202) from three-point range and 72.1 percent (119-of-165) from the foul line in their eight wins. In contrast, Pitt has shot just 39.7 percent (203-of-511) from the field, 30.0 percent (66-of-220) from three-point range and 66.7 percent (126-of-189) from the foul line in its 10 losses.
- The Panthers have not lost six consecutive games to open league play since joining the ACC. Pitt has not been 0-6 in conference play since the start of Big East play during the 2011-12 season.
- Pitt has fallen behind early in each of the past two games trailing 10-2 against Duke and 13-0 against Georgia Tech at the first media timeout.
- The Panthers are allowing 42.8 points in the paint per game in ACC play, while averaging just 21.2 points per game on the interior. Pitt has lost the points in the paint battle 11 times, including all five league games, this season.
- Ryan Luther will miss for the remainder of the season due to a stress reaction in his right foot. He will apply for a medical hardship and look to return to Pitt next season. Luther averaged 12.7 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game over the opening 10 games prior to the injury.
- Pitt has won two consecutive games and is 19-10 all-time in games played on Jan. 16. The Panthers posted an 84-61 win over Boston College on Jan. 16, 2016 in their last game on the date.
