Get to Know the 2017 Pitt Cross Country Newcomers
Name: Emily Burd
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Havertown, Pa.
Previous School: Friends' Central School
Describe yourself using three emojis.

What songs have you completely memorized?
Anything by Taylor Swift.
In which movie universe would you most like to live?
I would live on the island in which the movie Moana takes place. Who wouldn't want to live on a beach?
What's the farthest you've ever been from home?
Italy. I went to Lake Como and Milan with my friends last spring during our Senior Project.
Which app do you use the most on your phone?
Instagram and VSCO.
Why did you choose Pitt?
I chose Pitt because of the endless amounts of opportunities the school offers academically. When I came on my visit last year, I loved the team, and felt that I would fit right in. The location of the school is also perfect. Being from Philadelphia, I like that the campus is right by a city, but that there is also plenty of green space that surrounds Oakland as well.
What are you studying?
Undecided. I've thought about becoming a physician's assistant, but public health is something I'm also interested in.
Who introduced you to the sport of cross country?
My mom. I played club soccer my whole life, but once I began to run in local races with her, I fell in love with it.
Who is your favorite professional athlete of all time?
Emma Coburn.
Do you have any pre-meet rituals you have to do?
I eat pasta with chicken or salmon and couscous the night before my races. On race day, I put my right spike on before my left.
What is the craziest thing to happen to you during a race?
During freshman year of high school I got tripped on the last lap of the mile and fell flat on my face.
